Striving to keep my sights on God rather than this world….. So the other day I was looking through my Facebook and got a little overwhelmed. All I see down my timeline is hatred and division from the two main political groups. As usual, its one side against the other, but we can all see that in these days, it is way more extreme, highly fueled with hate, anger and division.

Nugget: let me take this moment to remind you that the word of God says that the things we fight, the enemies that we have are not flesh and blood, but spirit. The hate that goes towards one another is the work of the enemy that seeks to divide and turn the people of God against one another.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly palaces. Ephesians 6:12

My flesh wants to cringe when I say this, but I see valid points on both sides, as well as selfish points. I say my flesh because when you allow the Spirit to take president, He won’t allow you to purely choose D or R, but He will guide you to trust what is right, whole and true. I won’t get too deep into the politics of what’s going on, but in that moment of being a bit overwhelmed, I put the phone down, taking my focus off the world and turning to the rock who was able to bring me some clarity. It is so important to take in the instruction of the Lord to keep your mindset and focus of Him.

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 1 Peter 1:13

FOCUS ON THE LORD!!!!

If you set out to try to master this thing and gain your own understanding, you are setting yourself up for failure! If your set her heart on it, you are setting yourself up for failure!

I’m not saying that you won’t see it, we will all see everything going on around us, its inevitable. I’m saying, it CAN NOT be the center of your focus. Everyday things around us change. Rules change, opinions change, hearts change, minds change, motives and intentions, entire surroundings can be shifted, but the word says that the Lord stays the same. As a matter of fact, David says to the Lord:

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end. Psalm 102:25-27

When we are in the midst of trials or unpleasant experiences, Gods says focus on Him. Don’t focus on what’s going on around you, but focus on the Lord. I don’t know about you, but sometimes this is so hard for me. I feel like social media is constantly calling for me to set my attention on what’s going on with others in the world, which we all know can take us through an array of emotions. It is then that I have to encourage myself that even if my distractions call my name, just focus on the one who calls me by name.

But now, this is what the Lord says- he who created you, Jacob, he who for you Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1

God is not optional; He is so vital. He holds all things together in His hands and we need to set our hearts on Him. Wherever you set your focus is from where your hearts desires and intentions will arise. Set your hearts focus on the things of the Kingdom!!
